What we handle

From daily transactions to month-end close

Bookkeeping is the foundation of your accounting, tax and finance. We keep it accurate and current, so every decision and every return starts from clean numbers.

  • Transaction bookkeeping

Daily transactions recorded and kept current.

  • Monthly reconciliations

Every bank account, card and loan reconciled each month.

  • Month-end close

Books closed every month, not caught up at year-end.

  • Monthly financial reports

A clear monthly review of how the business is doing.

  • Accounts payable and receipts

Weekly accounts payable and receipt management, starting in Accelerate.

  • Tax planning and returns

Your business return and the owners’ individual returns, built from the same books.

We prepare business tax returns only for our monthly accounting clients. We don’t take on tax-only work.

Need payroll too? It’s an optional add-on for monthly accounting clients: see payroll services.

What a monthly review should feel like

“Received our first monthly review document and it was clear we made the right decision. Easy to read and follow along. A great snapshot of the business and expedient service. I would highly recommend Chris and the team at Midwest CPA for any accounting or bookkeeping services.”

Is it time?

Do it yourself, hire a bookkeeper, or hire a CPA firm?

Not every business needs a CPA firm. Here’s how we’d think about it.

  • Fits when

    QuickBooks on your own

One bank account, few transactions, no employees, and a CPA at tax time.

  • Fits when

    A bookkeeper

Transactions pile up, but taxes are simple and no one needs accrual financials. Budget a separate tax preparer.

  • Fits when

A CPA firm (Starter or Accelerate)

You run payroll, track jobs or inventory, have lender reporting, or want books and taxes handled by one team.

  • Fits when

    Advisory (Launch)

You’re making decisions on cash, hiring, pricing or an acquisition and want forecasts, a budget and a monthly call.

Under about $500K in revenue with simple books? You may not need a CPA firm yet, and we’ll tell you so.

Who you’ll work with

CPA-led, from the books to the return

Your books and tax returns (and payroll, if you add it) are handled by one team, so nothing gets lost between a bookkeeper and a tax preparer, and the advice you get is based on numbers we know.

Midwest CPA is a remote CPA firm, founded in 2022, with a team of about 22 people serving owners across the US.

FAQ

Outsourced bookkeeping: frequently asked questions

Is my business ready to outsource bookkeeping and accounting?

If the business is growing, your finances are getting more complex, or keeping the books in-house is taking too much time, it’s probably time. Outsourcing gives you accurate, current books and expert insight, and frees you to focus on running the business.

How much does outsourced bookkeeping and accounting cost?

Our monthly packages run $800 to $6,000 a month and include bookkeeping, 1099 filing, tax planning, your business tax return and the owners’ individual tax returns. Your package, transaction volume and entities set the price. Payroll is an optional add-on, quoted with your package. See pricing.

What size businesses do you work with?

Most of our monthly clients do between $500,000 and $10 million or more in annual revenue. If you’re under about $500,000 with simple books, you may not need a CPA firm yet, and we’ll tell you so.

Will you just do my taxes?

No. We don’t offer standalone tax services. We prepare business tax returns only for our monthly accounting clients, because the return is built from books we’ve kept all year. Tax planning and the owners’ individual returns are included in every package.

How often will I receive financial reports?

Most clients get monthly reports. Our fractional CFO clients also get weekly reporting.

Do you keep books on a cash or accrual basis?

Both. Our Starter package is cash-basis monthly accounting. Accelerate and Launch use full accrual accounting with weekly bookkeeping adjustments, which most businesses need once a lender, buyer or investor wants accrual financial statements.

My books are behind. Can you catch them up?

Yes. We bring your books current before monthly work starts. Catch-up costs your monthly rate times the number of months behind, and we quote it before we start.

Do you work with businesses in every state?

Yes. We’re a remote firm serving clients nationwide.
